With over 20 years’ experience in the industry, Fiona is a dynamic, focused and highly professional individual with an eye for process detail. Holding various key decision-making positions during her career, Fiona was formerly the Managing Director of McConnell Dowell’s specialist directional drilling division in the UK. Working worldwide provided invaluable overseas operational experience and contractual knowledge, which ultimately proved to be of critical influence in forming Stockton Drilling Limited with her husband, Gearoid.

Gearoid’s reputation for problem-solving is second to none, with clients greatly valuing his expertise and dedication to the delivery of successful projects. Over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry has enabled him to transform Stockton from a specialist HDD company into its modern-day ‘main contractor’ status, installing pipelines by traditional methods, Direct Pipe and HDD as well as undertaking significant civil engineering works. As a result, Stockton now has the proven ability to carry out an impressive range of complex and demanding projects.

Stuart Stephens

Director of Special Projects

Stuart grew up in rural Devon, initiating a lifelong hands-on approach which has been evident throughout his career. With a strong ability to communicate with the workforce at all levels, he firmly believes that everyone should be equally valued and that individual skills can be harnessed irrespective of job role or background. Continued interest in new techniques and a passion for keeping abreast with the latest technologies means that Stuart contributes significantly to Stockon’s impressive reputation for problem-solving.

Gerry Carolan

Gerry oversees the planning and delivery of all civils and groundworks projects across the UK. With more than two decades of site and project management experience, Gerry ensures every scheme is executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards — providing the dependable leadership Stockton’s reputation is built on. 

Expert Groundworks and Civil Engineering Services Across the UK

Stockton Civils is a leading provider of specialist groundwork and civil engineering services, delivering complex projects across the UK. Based in Wakefield, Yorkshire, we work with clients in both the public and private sectors, including commercial developers, infrastructure providers, and local authorities. Known for our technical expertise, fast response, and high standards, we operate as either Principal Contractor or Subcontractor, supporting projects from concept through to completion. 

Plant and equipment investment 

We’ve invested heavily in our own fleet of modern plant and equipment—from 38t 360 excavators to 1.5t dumpers— 250t HDD rigs to 750 ton direct pipe setup, allowing us to control delivery, minimise delays, and maintain consistent quality across sites.

Environmental responsibility 

We take a proactive and responsible approach to environmental management. Our procurement team works closely with approved suppliers to source low-carbon and sustainable materials, and we invest in fuel-efficient plant to reduce emissions. Every project is planned with environmental impact in mind—helping us meet both client goals and wider sustainability targets.  

Health & safety commitment  

At Stockton Civil Engineering, the safety and wellbeing of our people, clients, and communities is at the heart of everything we do. We operate a robust Health & Safety framework, with all operatives CSCS-certified or equivalent,  and our supervisors trained to SMSTS level. Our policies are regularly reviewed to ensure compliance with industry regulations, and all activities are delivered under strict safety protocols to minimise risk on site.

As part of our wider social value strategy, we create local job opportunities, support training and development, and maintain strong relationships with community organisations. We joined an apprenticeship programme in 2023 and continue to build a skilled workforce for the future. We also partner with grassroots organisations, such as Leeds Rhinos,  Wallasey RUFC, reinforcing our commitment to supporting local communities.
