We’ve got what it takes to do a job properly. Experience, reputation, determination and knowhow combine to deliver outcomes of an exceptional standard.

HORIZONTAL DIRECTIONAL DRILLING

Horizontal Directional Drilling, known as HDD, provides a safe installation system for pipes, ducts and cables where conventional open cut methods are not permitted, practical or viable. The process causes very little disruption to infrastructure and has minimum impact on the environment.

As a specialist HDD contractor, we work on a variety of projects within numerous sectors including environmental and transport infrastructure – and particularly when using HDD techniques to install landfall/shore approaches for clients in the offshore renewables sector.

Our HDD services accommodate pipeline installations for diameters ranging from 6” (150mm) to 48” (1200mm), with lengths from a few hundred metres up to two kilometres.

In addition to our expertise in Horizontal Directional Drilling, we also use ‘Direct Pipe’ techniques – a hybrid of micro-tunnelling and HDD – when the local geology is not suitable for standard HDD installation.

“In many ways, HDD is at the core of our business. We might now be a principal contractor but in our earlier years, HDD is what we were known for. You don’t lose that expertise – it simply gathers over time.”

PIPELINES

Alongside our substantial experience in HDD, we are also expert pipeline installation contractors. Our specialist skills and plant enable projects requiring traditional open-cut techniques, installing steel and HDPE pipelines for water, oil, gas, C02 and cable in diameters ranging from 4” (100mm) up to 48” (1200mm).

As one would expect, we provide turnkey solutions from feasibility and design, through to procurement, installation and reinstatement.

Working for a range of clients including National Grid, E.ON, Shell, BP and Laing O’Rourke, our continued long-term success is based on a sincere commitment to client collaboration and a truly bespoke approach to each and every project.

“20 years-plus in the industry has taught us a great deal. There’s not a lot that phases us these days; we face challenging conditions and difficult operating environments on almost all of our projects. In our experience, the most important thing is to think laterally and communicate clearly.”

CIVILS

People

Working alongside our HDD and pipeline teams but frequently independently of them, our civil engineering division works across the UK on a wide variety of projects.

Comprising the prerequisite skills to deliver turnkey operations from concept to completion, we provide design, procurement, project management and site supervision for projects large and small across all sectors.

Typically working to regenerate or enhance urban areas – specifically mixed-use development, industrial and business parks or in education – we also have significant and extensive capability in marine projects.

“Careful planning and management are key, along with the capacity to deeply understand a client’s requirements.”

CONSULTANCY

We utilise over two decades’ experience to deliver a cost-effective consultancy supporting clients in carrying out trenchless drilling activities. Our background working across a diverse range of sites has given us a remarkable understanding of the different environments in which these operations take place – ensuring that the service we provide is always insightful, meaningful and valuable.

Aiming to tailor the most suitable HDD or trenchless solution for any given site conditions, we work with clients from the very first step in determining the right course of action.

Our experts provide technical advice on all aspects of projects involving trenchless techniques, typically (but not limited to) on feasibility, planning and design, tender evaluation and project supervision.

“We can help you think differently, identify potential strategy risks and aid you in achieving optimal results by determining what needs focus and when.”
